Anyone can write a great blog post. You don’t have to be the world’s best writer (or even a very good one) in order to write an interesting article on your blog. The most important part is focusing on quality and the information you want to communicate. In this post we’ll go over the basics on how to write a great blog post so you can captivate your readers with wonderful content on your (business’) blog.
How To Write A Great Blog Post
In order to write a great blog post that people will want to read, you have to do keyword research. By finding out what people are searching for online, you can write an article about that to help them out with their problem or to answer their question.
The two big search engines we focus on are Google and Pinterest. For Google, you can use their own keyword planner to look up relevant keywords for the topics you write about here. You just enter a keyword to start looking for related keywords and see which ones are best to use. For Pinterest, you can type in any keyword and related suggestions will come up under the search bar.
Outline your post
Now that you know what you’re going to write about, it’s time to create an outline for your post. Determine what information you’re going to share in the post. Then write down the steps or subheadings that the post will have, depending what style suits the post the best. Also make sure to create enough paragraphs and subheadings to keep your post easy to read. Stick to the rule of thumb of around 150-200 words per subheading.
Write your post
Now it’s time to actually write the post. Create a nice intro to tell your readers what the post is going to be about and how they will benefit from reading it, then write the actual text and end with a short conclusion. You can summarize the text in a few sentences and ask your readers a question at the end for them to leave a comment.
Including beautiful pictures in your posts will make your blog look more appealing. Make sure that the pictures you use are of good quality. You can choose to use pictures you took yourself or opt for stock photograpy. We use beautiful pictures from Styled Stock Society*. We got a lifetime subscription to her gallery of over 2500 gorgeous pictures and it saves us a lot of time without compromising on the look of our website.
Add relevant links
Adding links is good for your SEO. Add external links to websites you mentioned in the post (like we did with Canva and Styled Stock Society* in this post, for instance). However, also make sure to link internally as well (this means linking to one of your own pages).
Check your spelling
Make sure to check your posts for spelling and grammatical errors. No worries, we all make them. However, leaving them in your posts makes you look unprofessional. That’s not what we want, right? So never forget to re-read your text to filter as many of them out of the post before you publish. You can also use Grammarly to check your spelling as you go.
Create a Pin graphic
Always use a beautiful Pin graphic at the end of your blog post so your readers can share your article on Pinterest if they want. You can use Canva to create beautiful graphics for free. They even have a lot of free templates for you to use if graphic design isn’t your strong suit.
Preview your post + Final check
It’s time to preview your post and see if everything is where you intended it to be. If everything looks good, check your post for any improvements you could make to your SEO (have you included alt tags to your pictures? Did you write a meta description?).
That’s it. You’re all done. You’ve checked your post for errors, have used beautiful images and created an awesome share-worthy Pin graphic. You’re good to go. Now all there’s left to do is hit “publish”.
And that’s that! That’s how to write a great blog post!
